Playing with slush

When illustrating the cover for the March issue of Hea Laps (a magazine for middle schoolers), I imagined kids playing with slush as the snow melts, creating interesting rivers and nooks. Although Estonia lacks mountains, this way of playing creates a miniature version of the Alps.

Creating this illustration was a journey. I initially used my usual style, characterized by high contrast and lots of patterns. However, for a younger audience, I opted for a more painterly look. I first colored the original image digitally before starting the painting.
