Valerahategija by Ave Taavet

‘Valerahategija’ is a collection of short stories by Ave Taavet, which I had the privilege to illustrate. The book features humorous, often magical tales with characters and settings familiar to Estonian readers.

My illustrations highlight everyday objects from the stories, intentionally avoiding characters to let readers connect them to their own experiences.

I began by creating a few thumbnails to decide on the illustration concept. In a separate notebook, I explored various ways to visualize materials like smoke, wood, metal, and water. Here, you can see some of this process.
